Are you a Tiger or a Rebel?  This game will be well attended by most mid Southerners who pledge allegiance to either school since they are in each other’s backyard but different states.  There exists strong legacies held by the locals for both schools.

Kickoff for the University of Memphis’ game against the University of Mississippi is set for 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 17th at Liberty Bowl Memorial Stadium. The American Athletic Conference announced the game time on Monday along with noting the game will be broadcast nationally by ABC.  This game is on the long list for ESPNs college game day.

This week’s game will be the first Memphis game televised since the Tigers defeated Tennessee 21-17 in a game broadcast by CBS on Nov. 9, 1996.

At 5-0, Memphis is off to its best start in 54 years and is ranked No. 25 in the Amway Coaches Poll. The Tigers have won an unprecedented 12 consecutive games dating back to 2014. This is the bye week for the UofM. Ole Miss, 4-1, is ranked No. 14 by the Associated Press and No. 13 in the Amway Coaches Poll.

The University of Memphis has a 5-0 record and Ole Miss’ overall record is 5-1.

On one hand, Memphis Tigers head coach Justin Fuente says his team’s battle with Ole Miss on Saturday is just another ball game on the schedule.

Memphis (5-0) is nationally ranked for the first time ever heading into a game against Ole Miss (5-1), who incidentally, is also nationally ranked. The Tigers are No. 22 in the Coaches Poll this week. The Rebels are No. 12 in the same poll.  Who really knows?

Memphis is undefeated, and if the Tigers somehow, some way find a formula to beat Ole Miss on Saturday, they’ll be favorites to run through the remainder of their schedule. That would mean they would be contenders for a New Year’s Six Bowl game!

Hugh Freeze watches as a full-blown quarterback controversy ensues. Meanwhile, the defense isn’t quite as good with the losses its suffered. A second defeat at Florida begins to usher the Rebels out of the division race.  The more you look at this team, the more you have to at least give it a credible chance of winning the SEC West.
