I attended the game last night and wanted to write a blog celebrating their first season win. This may have been an exhibition game but at times there was a narrow gap between the scores of the Memphis Grizzlies and the Houston Rockets.
It wasn’t pretty, but it got the job done: last night the Grizzlies pulled off an ugly, somewhat sloppy win in their first preseason game over the Houston Rockets.
Grizzlies coach Dave Joerger provided a glimpse into his thought process regarding lineup rotations after a week of training camp practices.
Coach Joerger, said not to read too much into the combinations after the Griz began the preseason Tuesday night with a 92-89 win over the Houston Rockets in FedExForum.
The Grizzlies’ starting lineup featured Mike Conley, Courtney Lee, Jeff Green, Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol, but that isn’t necessarily the intended group for opening night later this month.
The Griz plan to use most of their seven-game exhibition schedule experimenting.
“For me, I’m trying to look at a lot of different things, some different lineups,” Joerger said. “I don’t know how it’ll turn out yet.”
Beno Udrih, Tony Allen, Matt Barnes, JaMychal Green and Brandan Wright made up the second unit after the initial substitutions were made. The group provided the Grizzlies with their most aggressive defensive effort, helping them take an 11-point lead in the first half. It’s still early, and there’s plenty of time to decide the play format for the 2 units of players and how they are rotated.
The Grizzlies’ next preseason game is Thursday night against Maccabi Haifa, a team from the Israeli Basketball Super League.
