Let’s don’t forget what our 4th of July really means!

Old Glory!

It was over two hundred years ago that our nation, fought hard against a British monarchy to acquire its independence. We are the benefactors of that hard fought battle. Since then our freedom and democracy has been threatened on more than one occasion from military powers around the world and a civil interruption in the war between the states to maintain our Union. Two years ago today, my family went to Normandy beach in France. When our kids saw Normandy and the cemetery there, gloriously kept, it sent chills down our spines while the Star Spangled Banner was being played by some French teen orchestra. Our kids saw that this place was symbolic in that it was potentially one of the last vestiges of our democratic freedom. Once again this was held fast by our soldiers and our allies. Later came the cold war and Russian prowess and again the potential loss of our democracy. We held fast again and kept our place in history as a democratic nation. Currently, we have taken our stand against terrorism. We must remember that we have had to continue to fight for our country’s democratic freedom. This is unfortunately not as well appreciated by my generation and younger. Remember those who have blessed us with the opportunities we now have. Those who lived and those who had to give up their lives!
